Mr Joseph Kiwanuka Balikuddembe son of Mr. Joseph William Kiwanuka, one of the founders and Managing Director of Statewide Insurance, was on Saturday appointed the Executive Director of Centenary Bank.
The post had been vacant for about a year since February 2020 and the bank finally found a befitting candidate as per yesterday’s statement which partly read;
“Mr. Balikuddembe brings to Centenary Bank over 21 years of experience in the banking industry having worked with some of Africa’s largest banks with operations in Uganda.”
In deed, Mr. Balikuddembe has a tremendous work history as in his twenty-one tears of service he held positions of responsibility such as:
In February 1999, Mr. Kiwanuka started out as one of Centenary Bank’s Management trainees, later that same year in October, he became a banking officer. However, December 1999 did not leave him the same as he joined the loans division a post he held till 2005 in Centenary Bank.
Stanbic bank saw the potential in him and right away hired him in April 2005 as a business bank in personal and business banking division. He was later elevated to the position of Business Manager, still in the personal and business banking division in January of 2007.
His time with Stanbic bank soon came to an end as he joined the Barclay Bank present day Absa team still in 2007 but in October.
Under the corporate and investment banking division, he worked for five year from 2007 as the relationship manager in charge of multinational and large corporates a position from which he rose to serve as the Vice President, Head of trade finance still under the corporate and investment banking division in February 2012.
Two years later, in 2014 January, he rose the ranks to the position of Acting head of transactional services which he embraced the place of Vice President, head of business banking, retail and business banking in May 2014.

Exactly two years after this, in May 2016, United Bank of Africa fished him out of the Barclays system and appointed him to the post of Executive Director, business department where he was entrusted and oversaw five departments of Corporate banking, retail banking, institutional banking, public sector and digital and transactional banking and sales.
With such a highly profiled in his twenty-one years of experience, there is no doubt that Mr. Joseph Kiwanuka Balikuddembe is the right man for the job as he is known for his notable works like taking United Bank of Africa from the ruins to one of Ugandas’ leading banks.
