Wakiso DPC arrested for shooting reveler dead

Medard Assimwe, the Wakiso District Police Commander (DPC) has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing one John Kalumba who is also known as Kenzo.

The tragic happening occurred on Sunday when the DPC alongside his driver and two unnamed police officers raided a pub in Nsangi to arrest the culprits for drinking past curfew hours.

During the commotion, a shooting ensued which resulted into the death of John Kalumba and therefore the arrest of the DPC alongside the two police officers whose names have not been disclosed yet.

Basing on eye witnesses, Mr. Assimwe had fired with an aim of dispersing the crowd that had gathered at the pub and was violating the Standard Operating Procedures, however, a stray bullet unfortunately hit Kalumba.

Although police patrol tried to rush the victim to Mulago National Referral Hospital for immediate medical attention, his lungs gave up on Monday morning due to the impact of the bullet wounds.

Consequently, the death of Kalumba lead to the arrest of the DPC, the two officers and the driver as confirmed by the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire.

Upon learning of the death, the residents had decided to stage a demonstration on grounds that police was being brutal while enforcing the curfew guidelines which had cost Kalumba’s life. However, security had come in to stop any further violence.

“We have followed up this morning, but upon reaching Mulago, the doctors told us, the person we’re looking for is already dead, all we want is justice for our colleague, the DPC should be arrested now,” one of the residents disclosed.
