Van de Beek ruled out of Euro 2020

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek will miss the Netherlands’ Euro 2020 campaign with a groin injury.

The 24-year-old endured a difficult first season at United, making just four league starts after signing from Ajax last summer.

The 24-year-old has won 19 caps and last played for his country in the 7-0 win against Gibraltar on 30 March.

The Netherlands head coach Frank de Boer has not replaced the midfielder in his squad.

“Donny van de Beek has to let the European Championship pass by,” said a statement from the Dutch Football Association.

“The Manchester United midfielder is struggling with an injury.”

“As a result, the 19-time international, who last played minutes in Orange in March during Gibraltar – Netherlands (0-7), is not available in time for the European Championship.”

“National coach Frank de Boer does not call for a replacement for Van de Beek.”

Van de Beek nightmare

The midfielder has endured a nightmare debut season in England following his £40million switch from Ajax last summer.

His game time has been severely limited under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He has made just four Premier League starts under his belt in the 2020-21 campaign.

He did play the full 90 minutes of United’s final game of the top-flight season last month.

But he was an unused substitute in their Europa League final defeat by Villarreal.

In 36 appearances, he scored just one goal and supplied only one assist, having been forced to settle for a bit-part role.
