UPDF provides security update about suicide bomber at Gen Lokech’s burial

The UPDF today released a statement detailing a suicide bomber who was arrested yesterday in Pader district.

According to CMI Intel, an explosion took place yesterday at night at Dok Ilwak restaurant in Pader town council.

This is the area where the late Maj Gen Paul Lokech, the deputy IGP of Uganda Police will be laid to rest today.

In the statement released by Police, a one Katumba Abdul going by the moniker of Ben was arrested in connection to the explosion.

He was apprehended from Michika guest house.

“Following an intelligence led operation on the afternoon of Thursday 26 August 2021, a suspected suicide bomber identified as Katumba Abdul aka Ben was arrested by joint security forces at Mikicha Guest House.” The statement partly read.

The suspect was also found with a number of other explosives that included the likes of assembled home made bombs, bomb carrier bags, ball bearings, suicide vests, detonators, ammonium sulphate, wire cutters, switches and mobile phones used to detonate the bombs.

The statement went ahead to say that the suspect’s intent was to disrupt the funeral of the fallen soldier.

His accomplices are still on the run but have been identified according to the statement and will soon be arrested.

The public has been asked to stay calm as everything is under control by security.
