The Uganda U17 National football team edged Tanzanian side following a remarkable performance on Saturday in the qualifiers of the 2020 FIFA U17 Women World Cup.
Uganda which needed only one goal to reach the final round of the qualifier, however, won the game 5-0 at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo.
Therefore Saturday’s result means that the Ayub Khalifa coached side progressed to the next stage 6-2 on aggregate.
Winger Margaret Kunihira broke the deadlock after just two minutes from the mandatory first half break. In addition, with a fierce strike which seemed too hard for custodian Aishi Mrisho to save.
Fauzia Najjemba doubled the lead with a well-taken free-kick after a foul on Hadijja Nandago.
The stylish player curled the ball just above the wall and also her effort went into the back of the net.
Moments later, it turned out to be a scoring spree for Uganda with Grace Aluka’s clearance beating goalkeeper Aishi who had moved off her line to make it 3-0 for the hosts.
Skipper Juliet Nalukenge then scored twice in the closing stages of the game to make it 5-0 for Uganda.
Uganda’s victory over Tanzania means that they advanced to the playoff round. However, this is where they will now face off with Cameroon.
