Ugandan scientists under the Department of Immunology and Molecular Biology, College of Health Sciences (CHS) of Makerere University on Wednesday launched homemade Covid-19 Rapid antibody test kits.
Under the leadership of Dr. Misaki Wayengera, Director Biomedical Research at Department of Immunology and Molecular Biology, College of Health Sciences (CHS) at Makerere University, the team of scientists developed Covid-19 test kits which will cost less than one dollar. Currently, Covid-19 testing in Uganda cost’s around US$ 65.
The test kits were unveiled in an event that was attended by various government officials mainly from the health ministry including the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng.
Meanwhile, Uganda has seen a decline in the Covid-19 daily new cases. The latest results of COVID-19 tests done on 17 March 2021 confirmed 18 new cases bringing the cumulative confirmed Covid-19 cases to 40,625.
