Sadio Mane becomes Senegal’s all-time top scorer

Senegal forward Sadio Mane netted a hat-trick on Saturday against Benin 3-1 in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to become his country’s all-time top scorer.

The Liverpool forward opened the scored in the 12th minute from a penalty kick, then doubled the lead ten minutes later and finally broke the record in the 60th minute from another penalty kick.

Junior Olaitan scored a late consolation goal for the visitors in the 88th minute.

30-year old Mane has increased his tally of goals with the Teranga Lions to 32 goals beating the previous record of Henri Camara who had 31 goals in his name.

Mane celebrated his 10-year mark of international career last week as he made his debut on 25 May 2012 against Morocco and has since then played 87 games for Senegal.

In Algiers, Algeria beat Uganda 2-0 courtesy to goals from Aissa Mandi, 28, and Youcef Belaili.

The Uganda Cranes could have turned their fortunes around in the first half but Farouk Miya wasted a penalty kick in the 33rd minute.

The Desert Warriors are leading Group F as Niger were held by Tanzania to a 1-1 draw.

Mali hammered Congo 4-0 to go top in Group G with goals from Mohamed Camara, 1, El Bilal Toure, 11, 40 and Kalifa Coulibaly, 44.
