National Drug Authority Imposter Arrested Over Fraud

Police have arrested one suspect and are looking for three others, who have been defrauding people in and around Wakiso District on the pretense that they are National Drug Authority officials.

Police has identified the suspect in custody as Orombo Daws.

The suspects were using motor vehicle registration number UBG 334A, which was also impounded by the police, to defraud attendants from different clinics and pharmacies around Wakiso District.

According to Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, police were notified about this criminal act, and CCTV Command Center at Nateete were tasked to follow the said vehicle since 27 July 2020.

“Operators of CCTV cameras have been trailing them until 24/08/2020 when one suspect was arrested using a combination of forces of CCTV cameras, Traffic and Field Forces Unit,” he said

“The criminals use ladies to pretend to be National Drug Authority official,” he said.

Police has also released a video footage to the so as that the public help’s them to identify the other three suspects that escaped.

“We are releasing this footage requesting the public to positively identify the three suspects who escaped arrest,” Onyango said.

“We appeal to members of the public to be alert and report any person, who claims to be a National Drug Authority official to the nearest Police Station,” he said.

“National Drug Authority officials when they are carrying out their routine operations, they normally move with police officers dressed in their official uniforms,” he added.
