Director of Education Standards at Ministry of Education, Dr. Kedress Turyagyenda says the ministry still hopes for learners to resume school this year.
According to him, Ministry of Education already has a plan to ensure that schools are reopened and in so doing a mechanism to ensure that stakeholders are not worried about the wellbeing of their children.
While speaking on a local television, Dr. Turyagyenda says that in deed the Ministry has a plan which they will soon be sharing with the public in as far as ensuring that students return to school.
“All of us are anxious, but one by one, we are moving forward. Don’t worry; the plan will be released, when it is released, we shall work with all our partners to effect it. It will not be a dead year,” Dr. Turyagyenda informed.
Aside from the above information, he went on to say, “The medical schools will be opening hopefully before the end of this month. We (Ministry of Education) also have a concrete plan for the rest.”
Previously, while addressing the country, President Museveni said that although they plan on opening schools to resume the 2021 academic year, the target population to be vaccinated has not yet been reached.
Also, it is believed that the Pfizer vaccine that the country is set to receive is perfect for children in between the ages of 12-18 so the school going children shall have the chance to get vaccinated and resume school.

However, since the country still has inadequate vaccines for the children, they decided to vaccinate the children’s closet contacts the teachers all in a bid to ensure that the children are protected.
“We are not receiving enough vaccines, but we are looking at prioritizing teachers in the vaccination process,” Dr. Turyagyenda went on to explain part of the Ministry of Health strategy aimed at safeguarding the children’s health.
With this said, hopefully the Ministry of Education shall soon have the perfect procedure required to ensure that students can resume to school and complete the 2021 academic year.
