Former Presidential candidate and founder of the Forum for Democratic Change, FDC Dr. Kizza Besigye has demanded an apology from National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi.
Basing on Besigye, Kyagulanyi is obligation to make a public statement in which he asks his NUP supporters to stop the ongoing attacks over the recently formed People’s Front for Transformation (PFT) to which Dr. Kizza belongs.
“I called Kyagulanyi and he said he regrets the on-going attacks on this front. Some people have been asking me why he has not done that publicly and I don’t know why but I leave that to him,” Dr Besigye said while speaking to media.
The ongoing war between PFT which is an umbrella body of six opposition parties and NUP was triggered after NUP party members and supporters alleged PFT was out to fight against their (NUP’s) leaders on opposition in Parliament.
While the social media “battle” escalated last week, FDC president Patrick Amuriat Oboi who is also part of PFT came out to clarify that they didn’t require endorsement from the Leader of Opposition before forming political groups.
“Leading opposition in Parliament does not have to lead any struggle against the dictator if they don’t wish, are not prepared or have no capacity to. Mandela (former South African President) led the struggle against the apartheid in South Africa from outside Parliament. FDC doesn’t need anybody’s permission to struggle,” Mr Amuriat voiced his views via Twitter.
However, this is not the first time members of NUP are attacking Dr. Kizza Besigye as a similar situation also occurred prior to the recently concluded general elections earlier this year.
