Gov't reopens 127 Arcades, 50 Remain Closed.

Minister of State for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Hon. Kyofatogabye Kabuye has handed over the list of 127 names of Malls that have been recommended to be reopened.

“247 Arcades were inspected, 127 were recommended for reopening while 120 Were not recommended for reopening,”

Those that have not been recommended have been categorized into two; Those who detect could be easily fixed and those whose defeats required major works for compliance to be required.

Those in the first category were refused from reopening because they never had CCTV cameras, compliance officers at the entry, running water in toilets, isolation rooms, fire extinguishers and had poor waste management. They have been given 7 days to work on these defects.

The second category is said not to have toilets, parking spaces had been converted into shopping spaces, poor ventilation, depleted buildings. These are 50 Arcades in number and major works have been recommended.

“50 arcades have not been recommended for reopening and among those include; Mabrizi City Plaza, Kizito Towers, Mutasa Kafero, Gaza Land, Zam Zam Businesses Centre, Nabukera Plaza among others” Hon Hon. Kyofatogabye Kabuye said.
