According to South African prison officials, former President Jacob Zuma has undergone surgery and still remains in the hospital.
Furthermore, the Correctional Services Department spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo informed that despite the 79-year-old’s medical condition, he has court proceedings that have been scheduled for the coming days.
Also, nothing has been said in relation to the nature of operation the former president has undergone or even when he is expected to be discharged from the hospital where he currently is admitted.
At the time when Jacob Zuma was admitted into the hospital, he was already serving a 15-month jail sentence since July for contempt of court and failing to appear at the inquiry into allegations of corruption levied against him during his 2009-2018 president term.

Right before he got admitted into the hospital, he was meant to appear in court for a separate corruption trial scheduled for the previous week. In it, he was being accused of mishandling a $ 5 billion arms deal in the 1990s which in his defense he categories as a politically motivated accusation.
Apart from these accusations, Zuma has also pleaded not guilty for 16 other counts that have been levied against him which revolve around corruption, fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering.
