COVID-19 Death Toll Hits 30 as Uganda Registers 81 New cases


The ministry of health has recorded one COVID-19 death on Sunday bringing the total number of deaths to the virus to 30.

The victim is a Ugandan male aged 65 years old and a resident of Mbale.

The ministry of health has also confirmed 81 new coronavirus cases. These are; 67 contacts and alerts, 12 health workers, and two truck drivers who arrived from Kenya via Malaba border point.

The contacts and alerts that tested positive for COVID-19 include; 32 from Kampala, nine from Kiryandongo, seven from Kitgum, four from Wakiso, four Mukono, three from Iganga 3. Both Jinja and Gulu had two cases while Mbale, Oyam, Bundibugyo, and Namisindwa had one case each.

The health workers that tested positive were from Lira(4), Kampala(3), Moroto(3), Jinja(1), and Tororo(1).

Additionally, 11 foreign truck drivers tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted

The ministry of health tested 3,890 samples of which 3,099 were from contacts and Alerts while the remaining 791 were from the points of entry.

Meanwhile, the country’s cumulative total confirmed cases of Ugandans are now 2,928 with 1,288 recoveries. Also, COVID-19 death toll hits 30.
